Two weeks back, the local video game streamer Julynn Lau happily shared that she and her partner Benjamin Loh are now engaged.
The proposal was a dreamy affair, set on a beach at night with candles and a glowing sign that said “Marry Me” in the background.
To add to the magic, there was a drone display featuring hearts and a silhouette of a man proposing to a woman in the sky.
However, in a video posted on Oct 24 on Instagram and TikTok, Lau revealed the behind-the-scenes drama with the unnamed photography team hired to capture the special moment.
The video caption read, “POV: Their photographer thinks they’re the main characters of the proposal and missed the most important part of the engagement.”
As the couple gazed up at the sky to see the drone display (which was unfortunately out of frame), a voice could be heard urging, “They can just kneel down already, kneel down.” Amidst the male and female voices conversing in the background, when Loh popped the question to Lau, the man’s voice interrupted, saying, “Wide shot, wide shot, wide shot.”
They continued talking over Loh’s heartfelt speech and Lau’s response, expressing regret for missing the drone display shots but emphasizing the importance of capturing Loh.
Lau, caught up in the moment and visibly emotional, was even directed to adjust her hair and face for the camera. Lau mentioned that Loh had paid over $4,000 for the photography and videography services, and their constant chatter led to them having to overlay a voiceover on the proposal video they shared earlier.
Lau posed a question to her viewers, asking them, “If this happened during your proposal, what would you do?” She hinted at sharing more details in a subsequent video.
The news source has contacted Lau for further details.
Netizens were disheartened by the photographers’ behavior.
“Why spoil the moment? It’s a once-in-a-lifetime event,” one Instagram user commented.
Another person pointed out that the photographers seemed inexperienced yet charged exorbitant fees for their services.
Fellow photographers also showed support for Lau’s ordeal.
“Not every shoot needs precise directions,” a TikTok comment read
During emotional moments, it is crucial to adapt and capture the natural essence.
“Save the posing for later, after the crucial moments have passed,” advised a wedding photographer.
“You should capture the moment authentically while maintaining a respectful distance,” the wedding photographer advised on Instagram.
“If one feels they missed the perfect shot, they can recreate the down-on-one-knee moment afterward.”
“Don’t disrupt the actual moment for the couple as it unfolds.”
